Four college students visit Lantau Island to climb, spending the night at a temple in the mountains. Hosted by a young monk (played by Leslie Cheung), the students chat with the temple’s master throughout the night, discovering that the lives of monks are very different from those of ordinary people. The four travelers only aim to reach the mountain summit, while the monks seek the peak of Buddhist philosophy; the monks desire to transcend worldly attachments, while the students only wish to see the sunset. While couples picnic on the beach, the monk engages in meditation, illustrating a stark contrast between the realms of the monks and the secular world. Early the next morning, the students leave the temple to continue their journey, and the young monk, who is sweeping at the entrance, simply smiles and watches them leave, as if he has attained a moment of enlightenment through a flower...
