Street vendor Lu Yunsheng (played by Lyu Liangwei) often stands up for his neighbors and catches the attention of the wife of the concession's chief detective, Huang Jinrong (played by Zheng Zeshi), A Gui Jie (played by Siqin Gaowa). Soon, Lu uncovers the truth behind the assassination of Song Jiaoren, which brings him fame. Huang appreciates Lu, but this arouses the jealousy of Hou Fei.
