Conrad (played by Florian David Fitz) has a rather stubborn father, Karl (played by Henry Hübchen). Every time they return home for a visit, Conrad and his wife, Mata (played by Thekla Reuten), have to endure the various moods and difficulties imposed by this old man. Conrad's son, Jonas (played by Marius V. Haas), also has no feelings for his grandfather, seeing him only as a cash machine. At a birthday tea party, Conrad's mother, Helena (played by Leslie Malton), makes a surprising decision to leave Karl and the suffocating long marriage. Following this, Karl's life spirals into despair as he numbs himself with alcohol and ends up injuring himself by falling into the pool. To care for his father, Conrad has to move back into the house filled with childhood memories, along with his son.
