In Tokyo's Shimo, there is a car repair shop called Suzuki, owned by Suzuki Tawamu (played by Tsutsumi Shinichi). He lives happily with his wife, Tomoe (played by Yakushimaru Hiroko), and their son, Ippei. One day, they welcome Hoshino Rokuko (played by Horikita Maki), who comes to the city from the countryside to work at the shop. Rokuko, who had high hopes of returning to her corporate job, feels very disappointed upon arriving. Nevertheless, she humbly decides to stay and work. During her time there, Tawamu initially has misconceptions about Rokuko, but after resolving their misunderstandings, the four of them become like a family. Rokuko receives a train ticket from the Suzuki family for Christmas, allowing her to return home for New Year's, but she ends up crying and returns the ticket to Mr. Suzuki... Across the street from the Suzuki household lives a talented but unappreciated writer, Chagawa (played by Yoshioka Hidetaka), who writes children's books for a third-rate magazine. The local tavern owner, Hiromi (played by Koyuki), asks him to adopt an orphan named Junisuke, and when he learns that Junisuke is a loyal reader of his work, Chagawa's attitude towards him changes significantly. Hiromi also develops feelings for his generosity, but unexpectedly, she leaves right before their wedding. Junisuke desperately wants to find his mother, and at this time, a wealthy man claiming to be his father wants to take him away. Chagawa, although reluctant, feels there is nothing he can do, but in his moment of despair, he spots a familiar figure ahead...
