A poor boy named Ali (Amir Farrokh Hashemian) accidentally loses his sister Zahra’s (Bahare Seddiqi) repaired shoes while picking them up. To avoid being punished by their father (Mohammad Amir Naji) and mother (Fereshte Sarabandi), he begs Zahra to keep it a secret for now, suggesting that they can alternate wearing his shoes to school, and promises to buy her a new pair of shoes. Ali originally hoped to use the money he earned working in the city with his father to buy Zahra new shoes, but his father's unexpected injury dashed his dreams. Upon seeing the prize for third place in the city long-distance running competition is a pair of sports shoes, Ali decides to participate, but he misses the registration deadline. After much pleading, the teacher (Dariush Mokhtari) makes an exception and allows the talented Ali to enter the race. During the competition, Ali constantly reminds himself that he must secure third place!
