The story takes place in a beautiful Dai village in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan. A little girl named Yihuan (played by Lin Tian) anxiously waits with her mother (played by Huang Zhiling) and grandfather (played by Yang Baohua) for her father (played by Bi Yuanjin) and brother Aira (played by Li Yanbo), who went out to earn money three years ago. This is a significant moment as her fourteen-year-old brother is about to become a monk, an important rite of passage for Dai boys. Upon his return, Aira brings back a small white elephant, handcrafted by his sister, as an offering to the Bodhisattva in the temple. During an accidental mountain patrol, the siblings rescue an injured little white elephant, which they care for and name Xina. The village chief (played by Lin Changwen) helps build an elephant house in the village, giving Xina her own home. However, after losing money gambling, their father is pushed by the casino owner to steal and sell Xina. Ignoring the advice of their mother and grandfather, the greedy father uses a sedative on his son and steals Xina away. Aira and his sister embark on a journey to find Xina...
