Babe initially arrived at Hoggett's farm as a prize in a fairground game. The animals here each have their roles and stick to their positions, and Babe is just one of the inconspicuous members. Although Babe seems clumsy, he is kind-hearted and friendly, gradually winning the affection of various animals, especially the noble sheepdogs who take special care of him. The sheepdog couple, Rex and Fly, are in charge of the farm's sheep, and Rex tends to treat his "stupid" flock roughly. To prove his worth, Babe focuses on learning herding techniques from the sheepdogs, but the hard methods he learns from Rex fail him in front of the sheep. Fortunately, Babe gradually masters the skills and progresses quickly.
Babe's overstepping of his duties displeases the other animals, and Rex becomes even more upset due to Babe receiving praise from their owner. Babe is set to participate in the sheepdog trials! This draws laughter from everyone but also gives Babe a chance to prove himself.
