Chris (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) was once a dazzling young man: a hockey star with a privileged background, a beautiful girlfriend, and a life that flowed smoothly like a flat road. However, a car accident destroyed everything, leaving him with short-term amnesia, struggling through each day in an uncontrollable state, unable to reliably remember even small details like where he put his car keys. Now, he works as a bank security guard, and his only friend is blind Louis (played by Jeff Daniels), who guides Chris on how to cope with life through his joyful outlook. Someone is trying to get close to Chris: Gary (played by Matthew Goode). Gary is very concerned about Chris's circumstances, introduces him to a girlfriend, and awakens his inner desire to reclaim his former life; his ultimate goal is to conspire with Chris to carry out a bank robbery. Chris not only faces the torment of his amnesia but also has to deal with this tricky plan to regain control of his life.
