During the Anti-Japanese War, in Liujiacao Village, a border area of Shanxi. There are two special figures in the village: Er Zhuge (played by Zhao Ziyue), who consults the almanac for everything, and San Xiangu (played by Zhou Ting), who pretends to be mysterious. Er Zhuge's son, Xiao Er Hei (played by Yang Jianye), is the village's militia captain, and San Xiangu's daughter, Xiao Qin (played by Yu Ping), is a radical member of the women's rescue association. They have been childhood sweethearts and fall in love as they grow up. Their marriage faces opposition from Er Zhuge, who believes their fates do not match based on the almanac, while the lazy San Xiangu thinks Xiao Er Hei's family is too poor and is determined to find Xiao Qin a wealthy and powerful husband. The village chief, Jin Wang (played by Ge Cunzhuang), is a bully in the village and, after failing to flirt with Xiao Qin, bears a grudge and plots against her and Er Hei. Meanwhile, San Xiangu accepts a betrothal gift from a bandit officer, insisting Xiao Qin marry him, to which Xiao Qin resolutely refuses. After understanding the situation, the district chief (played by Li Baiwan) punishes the villainous Jin Wang and approves the marriage of Er Hei and Xiao Qin...
