Alex (played by Konstantin Lavronenko) and his wife Vera (played by Maria Bonnevie) take their children to their family’s country home for a vacation. The serene life and beautiful scenery here soothe the weary souls of the family. Just as Alex is immersed in a tranquil mood, Vera tells her husband that she is pregnant, shocking Alex with the revelation that the child is not his. Under this tremendous blow, Alex confides his frustrations to his brother Mark (played by Aleksandr Baluev), and after discussing the matter, Alex decides to have Vera terminate the pregnancy. Unfortunately, Vera dies on the operating table, and Alex's world collapses. His grief and anger turn into hatred, and he vows to find his wife’s lover and make him experience the same pain he has felt.
