Writer J.M. Barrie (Johnny Depp) is in a period of creative drought. Every day, as he walks through the park, he sees a group of children playing. He stops to observe and discovers they are playing a pirate game, and the kids warmly invite him to join their pirate crew. Barrie becomes a big kid himself, towering over the others but having a wonderful time—props, roles, various plots—the park transforms into a joyful fantasy world. This experience becomes the source of inspiration for Barrie's creation of "Peter Pan." The children's mother (Kate Winslet), a widow, is also affected by the happy atmosphere. Barrie enjoys a familial bond with them, relishing in simple pleasures, yet they inevitably attract gossip. Meanwhile, Barrie's wife belongs to the real world and cannot reach Barrie's inner self. The completion of "Peter Pan" is met with skepticism from many, but the local reaction after the performance proves Barrie's persistence was correct. However, Barrie and the children soon face a significant blow from the real world—their kind mother is drifting away from them…
