Ma Shan (Jiang Wen) is an ordinary police officer in a remote town in southwest China. One night, after getting extremely drunk at his sister's wedding, he is sent home by someone. The next morning, he wakes up to find his service weapon, which he never parts with, has vanished. Realizing that the thief could use the three bullets in the gun to kill, Ma Shan is horrified, and that night, everyone who attended his sister's wedding becomes a suspect.
