The story takes place in Newcastle, northern England. Due to the subprime mortgage crisis, Ricky (played by Kris Hitchen) not only loses his job but also accumulates massive debts. To make ends meet, Ricky takes out a loan to buy a small van, intending to start a new chapter in his career with deliveries. However, this impulsive decision brings irreparable harm to his entire family. Ricky's wife, Abby (played by Debbie Honeywood), is a domestic worker serving the elderly and disabled. Now, she has to rely on public transport to travel between different employers, which leaves her feeling extremely exhausted. In order to repay the van loan, Ricky has to spend more time working, making their oldest son, Seb (played by Rhys Stone), feel very neglected.
