On the day of his resignation, small-town marshal Will Kane (Gary Cooper) marries his fiancée Amy (Grace Kelly) and they prepare to start their honeymoon. Just as they are about to leave, three unwelcome guests arrive in town: Pierce, Cobey, and Ben, who are waiting at the train station for the outlaw Frank Miller, whom Will captured five years ago. Sensing that the town will be caught up in a bloody vendetta, the townspeople begin to hide or urge Will to leave, but the outgoing marshal insists on staying and begins searching for allies. Surprisingly, the deputy Harvey and the judge who sentenced Frank all distance themselves from the issue, and Will's newlywed wife does not support his decision to stay, leaving him isolated. With no help, Will has no choice but to arm himself and fight... This film's timeline is consistent with that of the real world. The film won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1953 and over a dozen other professional accolades.
