Bryan (played by Michael B. Jordan), a graduate of Harvard Law School, is running a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing legal assistance to death row inmates. With the help of Eva (played by Brie Larson), Bryan's beautiful vision takes root as he establishes his own office and gains his first client. Six years later, when Bryan meets Walter (played by Jamie Foxx), who was sentenced to death despite having a strong alibi, he discovers that the long prison life has shattered Walter's spirit. Bryan decides to help Walter appeal, but his passionate actions are met with resistance from the newly appointed prosecutor. Despite losing support, Bryan persists in fighting for Walter's exoneration.
