Nixon (Frank Langella) stepped down after the Watergate scandal but never admitted his mistakes to the public, owing the American people an apology. Foster (Michael Sheen) is a British playboy hosting a talk show in Australia. He gets the idea to interview Nixon after seeing him leave the White House by helicopter during a live broadcast and decides to pursue it. No one has high hopes for Foster, and no television network is willing to pay for his interview. His friend John (Matthew Macfadyen) brings in the well-known journalist Bob (Oliver Platt) and James, who has deep insights into Nixon, to form a small team to start digging for information. Foster personally covers the initial interview fee to secure a meeting with Nixon and finalizes the dates for a series of interviews. The team frantically prepares questions to force Nixon to confess during the interview. Nixon's advisers are also busy preparing responses, never taking Foster seriously. As the formal interview begins, Foster struggles against Nixon's relentless self-defense, pushing him to go all out in search of a breakthrough...
