Beautiful high school girl Ruby Rossi (Emilia Jones) was born into an unusual fishing family where her parents and older brother are both deaf and communicate solely through sign language. Ruby, who is healthy, finds herself both fortunate and unfortunate. She serves as the bridge for her family to the outside world, enduring various forms of discrimination and mockery. During this time, her best friend Gertie (Amy Forsyth) is her strongest support. Ruby, in her crush on a boy named Miles (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo), auditions for the school choir and is quickly recognized by the teacher for her talent. After that, Ruby frequently finds herself juggling between the choir and her family, yearning to go to Berkeley to pursue her musical dreams, which will require her to separate from her family that relies on her immensely. This causes her deep anxiety... The film is based on true events.
