A-Ying (Maggie Cheung) and A-Ye (Maggie Cheung) are sisters who are as close as sisters can be, but they are forced to separate due to the collapse of their parents' marriage. A-Ye follows her mother to Japan, receiving a good education and growing into a graceful young lady. Meanwhile, A-Ying lives with her gambling-addicted father, who ultimately commits suicide after being unable to pay off a massive gambling debt. A-Ying, in order to survive, ends up in the red-light district as a call girl. Years pass, and to search for A-Ying, A-Ye returns to Hong Kong with her husband. However, A-Ying becomes a witness to a murder and is subsequently hunted by the killer, eventually being driven to suicide. In order to find the murderer of her sister, A-Ye decides to impersonate A-Ying to draw the culprit out, but this action places her at the center of a conspiracy.
