The story takes place in London in 1910, where Mr. Banks (played by David Tomlinson) is a bank employee, and Mrs. Banks (played by Glynis Johns) is devoted to the women's suffrage movement. The busy couple is unable to take care of their two children, Mike (played by Matthew Garber) and Jane (played by Karen Dotrice), and can only hire a nanny to help out. However, what the couple does not know is that the quirky siblings are not something an ordinary nanny can handle! A beautiful girl named Mary (played by Julie Andrews) arrives at the Banks' home to apply for the nanny position, and she immediately makes a deep impression on Mike and Jane. It turns out that Mary is a magical fairy, and her arrival allows the two children to feel love and friendship again, while also helping Mr. and Mrs. Banks understand what truly matters in life.
