Adam (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) is an associate professor of history at a university, living with his girlfriend and leading a quiet life filled with the routine of going to work and coming home. Until one day, he spots an actor in a movie who looks exactly like him. He uses the internet to find out more about this actor and manages to contact him. The actor who looks just like Adam is named Anthony, who has a pregnant wife. Initially, he sees Adam as just a crazy fan, until he searches for Adam online and finally decides to meet him. The two agree to meet in a hotel, and when Adam sees Anthony, who looks exactly like him, he feels a sense of fear and hurriedly tells Anthony not to meet again before leaving. However, a few days later, Anthony shows up at Adam's home and makes a strange request...
