The film is adapted from the 1961 Yale University obedience to shock experiments, where the experimenter indiscriminately increased the punishment voltage, surpassing the limits of human endurance. Any ordinary person who follows the rules may unconsciously become a killer, leading the professor to begin questioning human nature; ordinary people are merely puppets manipulated by others.
