Russell (Bruce Willis) is middle-aged, with a mediocre career and an empty love life. After a busy life, what he has achieved can only be described as "lackluster." By chance, Russell encounters a boy who looks very familiar, and to his surprise, this boy is none other than his 8-year-old self (Spencer Breslin). After much effort, Russell convinces young Russell that he is him 32 years later, but young Russell is deeply disappointed to find out that he did not grow up to be the handsome pilot he had imagined, but rather a lonely, down-and-out middle-aged man. To change his future, young Russell decides to help his future self, and in the process of spending time with him, Russell also finds his way out of confusion and sees hope again.
