Anna, a tutor from the UK, arrives at a wealthy family in Madrid, Spain, consisting of an elderly lady, three sons, and the wife and daughter of the second son. The old lady suffers from mental illness and is plagued by nightmares; the eldest son, Jose, is power-hungry, manages the household, and is obsessed with a military image; the second son, Juan, is addicted to women and has an affair with the maid; the youngest son, Fernando, is taciturn and practices severe self-discipline in caves. Anna's arrival disrupts the seemingly peaceful life of the family, with all three men wanting to possess her but unable to do so, ultimately leading to her expulsion, as the three brothers take the opportunity to satisfy their desires.
