Bruno (played by Jérémie Renier) is a 20-year-old street thug earning his living through various legal and illegal underground deals. His 18-year-old girlfriend, Sonia (played by Deborah François), also has no legitimate job and relies on meager welfare benefits to get by. During Sonia's pregnancy, they manage to enjoy a somewhat decent life by taking advantage of government policy loopholes, but after the child is born, their situation becomes tight again.
