Charulata (played by Madhabi Mukherjee) is married, but what she does not expect is that a happy and joyful married life awaits her. Charulata's husband is an intellectual; although well-read, he chooses to devote all his energy to researching political publications. In his mind, a wife only needs to manage household affairs and does not require his companionship or understanding. As time goes by, the relationship between Charulata and her husband becomes increasingly cold. She lives in solitude all day long, feeling deeply troubled inside. At this critical moment, her husband's cousin enters Charulata's life.
