Chen's mother (played by Zhao Lirong), now over seventy, cannot change her old beliefs. She fears her son will cremation her and, with her brother fanning the flames, insists that Erxia write a burial agreement. On the eve of her birthday, Erxia's sister (played by Ding Jiali) and brother-in-law (played by Ni Dahong) bring a large red coffin as a birthday gift, which ultimately resolves Chen's mother's concerns.
