The land of Anatolia is full of spirit, yet the conflicts among people add a touch of sorrow to it. The old father is worried that the grove filled with poplar trees will be confiscated by the government; his sincere eyes carry the essence of spring that falls between the leaves. The son returns to his hometown in search of filming material, gathering family and friends to act, eager to capture nature in still frames. His nine-year-old nephew carries an egg with him, hoping to keep it safe for forty days so that his father will feel assured enough to buy him a musical watch. The director Nuri Bilge Ceylan reminisces about the days of shooting "Small Town Days" during his last visit home, sharing some poignant little stories, personally capturing the passionate and turbulent faces of ordinary people (the parents in the film are his own). The breath of the lens and the gaze of the heart are in sync, rivaling Iran’s Kiarostami, winning a total of seventeen awards both domestically and internationally.
