Young Bassanio (played by Joseph Fiennes) is determined to propose to the wealthy heiress Portia (played by Lynn Collins). To fulfill this wish, he must provide three thousand ducats, so he reluctantly turns to the kind-hearted merchant Antonio (played by Jeremy Irons) for a loan. Coincidentally, Antonio, due to business issues, can only borrow this money from the Jew Shylock (played by Al Pacino).
