In 1979, in a certain navy unit, the marriage of the old leader Comrade Liu (Gao Bo) and his eldest daughter Liu Fangfang (Gong Xue) attracted the attention of Wei Xia (Gao Cui). She reviewed personnel files and selected Shen Zhiyuan (Guo Kaimin) from a research institute. She used a "matchmaking" method to bring Shen to Nan Gang for a blind date with Fangfang, which puzzled and repelled Shen.
