Huangmei opera film. Feng Su Zhen (Yan Feng Ying) and Li Zhao Ting (Chen Wen Ming) have been classmates since childhood and made a pact to marry, but after Li's family is ruined by treacherous officials, this engagement is obstructed by Su Zhen's stepmother, Wang (Huang Fu Ying), who favors wealth. Despite this, Su Zhen remains determined and secretly meets Zhao Ting in the garden to give him a hundred taels of silver and a jade qilin. Wang arrives and accuses Zhao Ting of theft, sending him to the authorities, while arranging for Su Zhen to marry a wealthy family. Unwilling to comply, Su Zhen escapes and disguises herself as a man to search for her brother, Shao Ying (Xiong Shao Yun), who has been driven out by Wang. Su Zhen cannot find Shao Ying but sees the imperial examination announcement and cleverly takes Zhao Ting's name to take the exam, intending to save Zhao Ting with her success. Unexpectedly, she becomes the top scholar and is summoned by the emperor, who has fallen for her beauty and talent, to become the prince consort. Not knowing what to do, she is visited by the former top scholar and inspector Zhang Shao Min, whom she recognizes as her brother, and they begin to devise an escape plan. However, the imperial decree summons Su Zhen to enter the palace immediately to marry the princess (Pan Jing Li). On the wedding night, Su Zhen's repeated refusals raise the princess’s suspicions, forcing her to reveal the truth. The princess, shocked but moved by Su Zhen's loyalty, faces the emperor's furious reaction upon his discovery.
