The film is based on the true story of the acacia tree. In the early summer of 1984, the then-company commander Li Xiang'en encountered danger while patrolling by the Halahaha River, sacrificing himself heroically to save a comrade. His wife, Guo Fengrong, planted a Chinese fir beside the outpost to express her grief. Before passing away from illness in 2010, Guo Fengrong entrusted her son, Li Xin, to scatter her ashes in the Halahaha River, continuing to accompany her husband in guarding the northern border of the motherland.
