A new work by Jiang Wen after seven years of hiding, composed of four small stories full of magical realism. In 1976, in a remote mountain village in the south, Li Dongfang (played by Fang Zu Ming)'s mother goes mad because of a pair of shoes, becoming the Crazy Mom (played by Zhou Yun), who is mentally unstable all day long. One day, Li Dongfang accidentally discovers the truth behind his mother's madness… In 1976, at a university, a movie is screened on the playground at night, and five women claim that someone "touched their buttocks." Teacher Liang (played by Huang Qiusheng) mistakenly becomes a suspect, and someone begins to secretly help him clear his name… In 1976, Lao Tang (played by Jiang Wen) and his wife Tang (played by Kong Yashan) are sent to the same mountain village where Li Dongfang lives. Lao Tang spends his days hunting with the village children, living carefree, while Tang feels neglected and prepares to seek a new life… In 1958, in Xinjiang, two women on camels, Tang and the pregnant Crazy Mom, walk side by side, facing two entirely different fates… The entanglements years later begin with an encounter in the vast Gobi Desert, which has long been fated.
