Ed (John Lithgow) is a cautious man who likes to prepare for everything in life, big and small. This should be a wonderful quality, but unfortunately, Ed firmly believes that America will soon face extinction. Therefore, he must do everything possible to be fully prepared before that happens, such as building a shelter room in his home. Ronnie (Blythe Danner) is a shopaholic who cannot suppress her desire to buy and always fills her home with various items. Fate has brought Ed and Ronnie together, and Ronnie's behaviors lead Ed to mistakenly believe she is someone who is also always ready for the moment.
