Noriko (played by Kaho) is a 20-year-old college student who leads a life of aimlessness and confusion about her future. Through her mother's introduction, Noriko comes with her cousin Michiko (played by Mukaida Maho) to a nearby tea ceremony classroom to learn the art of tea, marking Noriko's first step into this unfamiliar and mysterious realm. The teacher responsible for the class is an elderly woman named Takeda (played by Kiki Kirin), whom Noriko finds somewhat intimidating at first.
