Directed and starred by the French method actor Albert Dupontel, "See You in Heaven" is adapted from the novel of the same name by crime novelist Pierre Lemaitre. It tells the story of two soldiers who suffer punishment for witnessing their superior commit a crime, only to find that the superior has skyrocketed to success after retirement while they are left impoverished. Determined not to let the petty criminal thrive, they decide to seek justice for themselves. The film vividly portrays French society after World War I, from the bloody and muddy battlefields to the glamorous parties filled with excess, but even the beautiful masks cannot hide the pain of life behind them.
