The film is based on the entrepreneurial story of Big Bowl Tea from the Qianmen area in the 1970s and 1980s, written by the renowned screenwriter Ma Quanlai. It narrates the story of Yin Shengxi (played by Li Shengqi in the film), a street cadre and Communist Party member during the early stages of reform and opening-up, who leads a group of unemployed returning youth to start their own careers from the two-cent-a-bowl big bowl tea, overcoming difficulties and changing their mindset, becoming exemplary representatives of the reform and opening-up era. The film fully showcases the urban development changes in Beijing and the transformation of people's thoughts and ideas since the reform and opening-up. The film stars Zhang Shuangli, Shi Xiaoman, and Xie Lian, with 90% of the other actors being professional performers from Beijing.
