Takeo Hayakawa (played by Ryo Kase) is a successful young photographer in the big city, while his brother Minoru Hayakawa (played by Teruyuki Kagawa) takes over the family business, managing a small gas station in their hometown. On the anniversary of their mother’s death, Takeo returns home to visit, where his former lover Chieko (played by Yoko Maki) works at the gas station, lamenting her decision not to leave with Takeo years ago. Takeo, full of youthful exuberance, frequently clashes with their traditional and stubborn father, while older brother Minoru obeys their father’s wishes. Afterward, the brothers and Chieko go to a nearby creek for a day out, but Chieko tragically falls to her death from an old, dilapidated suspension bridge. Minoru, the only one beside her at the time, becomes the prime suspect in her death. Takeo desperately tries to prove that it was an accident to help his brother. However, during the court proceedings, Minoru suddenly behaves unexpectedly…
