Raimunda (played by Penélope Cruz) lives with her alcoholic husband and young daughter, but her life is anything but calm. Raimunda has a sister, Sole (played by Lola Dueñas), and the two grew up in poverty with their parents. After their parents died in a fire, the sisters moved to Madrid, gradually drifting apart as they pursued their own lives. However, an accident and a ghost disrupt the tranquility of their lives.
