This is a small village on the island of Calabria, nestled between mountains and the sea. From the foothills, you can see the distant Ionian Sea. It is a place where time seems to have stopped; here, the stones have the power to alter events, and the goats pause to contemplate the origins of the sky. There lives an old shepherd who has little time left. He is ill and firmly believes he has found the elixir of life; he collects dust from the church floor each night and drinks it with water. In a small patch of black soil in a sheepfold, a goat gives birth to a little white goat. The initial discomfort of life lasts only a short while; its eyes immediately open, and its hooves are strong enough to support its weight. The arrival of this new life fills the entire village with hope. The lamb grows stronger and begins to play. In a moment of carelessness, it wanders away from the resting flock, lost in the dense vegetation, until it tires and takes a rest beneath a majestic cedar tree. This giant tree sways with the mountain breeze. Time passes, and the seasons change rapidly; the tree loses the sound of its swaying branches, replaced by the mechanized roar of machinery. The cedar falls to the ground, cut down and dismembered. Its white wood is transformed into charcoal using ancient local techniques. The last time we see it, it disappears along with the smoke and dust… The poetic language of the film tells the story of the connection between life and nature, interpreting a forgotten eternal place, revealing the essence of harmony. This is a science fiction film that entirely avoids the use of special effects, drawing people into an unknown fantastical world and narrating a wonderful story woven from four interconnected lives.
