In 1949, at the dawn of the new China. As the country was stabilizing and in need of reconstruction, the façade of peace masked a war without gunpowder that had already begun. The defeated Kuomintang retreated to Taiwan and continuously sent spies to the mainland, waiting for opportunities to sabotage.
