In the snow-covered Anatolian mountains, a secluded boys' boarding school is nestled away from the world. One night, the boys are punished severely for their excessive fooling around in the shower and are forced to take cold showers in temperatures of minus 30 degrees. The next day, Youssef discovers that his roommate has started to vomit severely and has fallen into a coma. He quickly informs the teachers, but only sees the adults passing the blame around. As time passes and the snow on the way down becomes deeper, he watches his fading friend, with his own sanity on the edge of collapse. The Kurdish rising director adapts from his childhood experiences, setting the scenes in a boarding school that resembles a microcosm of real society. Through the innocent yet frightened eyes of the boys, he uses shaky, restless camerawork to denounce the ruthless system of bureaucratic killings, and sharply critiques the generational replication of stale educational thinking. "The control imposed on our small bodies will shape our minds in the future. Controlling children is, in essence, controlling the future." ─ Fali Karahan
