Aoki Yui (played by Yui Aragaki) is an art student who has to leave her original home to live alone in an apartment because her sister is getting married. Upon arriving, Yui follows her mother's advice and brings gifts to visit every new neighbor in the apartment, making a strong impression on her upstairs neighbor, Aoyama Takashi (played by Ryûhei Matsuda). Later, during her internship in the forestry department, Yui discovers that the professor she is supposed to follow is actually Takashi, who lives above her. As they work together on a project about glowing pine trees, Yui gradually develops feelings for this quiet boy. After forgetting a gift intended for her sister at her old home, she meets new neighbor and architect Kinta Aki (played by Rinko Kikuchi). Inspired by Aki's cheerful smile, Yui designs a chair for her upcoming competition that brings two people closer together. Yui believes these two wonderful friendships mark the beginning of a new life, but a piece of cut curtain unexpectedly reveals that Takashi and Aki were once a couple, and that Yui is now living in Aki’s former home. Thus, Yui finds herself entangled in a complicated love triangle...
