14-year-old girl Susie (portrayed by Saoirse Ronan) is lively and quirky. Her father (played by Mark Wahlberg) is a model enthusiast, her mother (Rachel Weisz) is a traditional homemaker, her sister is bold, and her brother is weak. On her birthday, she receives a camera and falls in love with photography, even using up 24 rolls of film in one month, much to her parents’ chagrin. One day, while the family is at the supermarket, she stares dreamily at a boy outside the window. Her grandmother (Susan Sarandon) sees through Susie's feelings, as the handsome British senior is her secret crush. However, before they can confess their feelings, Susie falls into a trap set by a bad man. The lecherous neighbor Harvey uses sweet talk to lure Susie into his prearranged scheme… This film is based on Alice Sebold's best-selling novel, told from Susie's perspective in a reverse narrative style, presenting a magical realism crime story.
