Ga Yu (Zhang Lei) was originally a police officer. In order to investigate the poaching of Tibetan antelope, he disguises himself as a journalist and joins an expedition team to Kekexili—a place with a cold climate, thin air, and extremely low oxygen levels. In this "forbidden zone" for human survival, Ga Yu witnesses scenes of human greed and the violent conflict between humanity and the environment. First, members of the Tibetan antelope protection team's patrol are shot dead by poachers, and then they come across a tragic scene: the poachers escape, leaving behind numerous Tibetan antelope reduced to mere skeletons. The patrol members pursue the killers in harsh conditions, ultimately recovering only a portion of the Tibetan antelope skins. Facing the struggle against the harsh natural environment on one hand and the brutal poachers on the other, the patrol members and Ga Yu face life-and-death challenges.
