The reformed scoundrel Chan Tsz-fai (played by Tony Leung) bids farewell to his girlfriend (played by Carina Lau) before going to work out of town. The village chief's son, Kwan, and his girlfriend, Lin, are playing in the jungle when Kwan, driven by lust, severely injures Lin and flees in a panic. After parting with Ling, Fai trips while passing through the jungle.
