In the early 18th century, during the reign of King Yeongjo (played by Song Kang-ho) of the Joseon Dynasty, he cherished his second son Lee Jae (played by Yoo Ah-in) after the early death of his firstborn. Not only was Lee Jae appointed as the crown prince immediately after his birth, but he was also assigned esteemed ministers to oversee his education.
