In the 1940s, Richard Piment (played by Ron Livingston) was born into an ordinary yet troubled family. His mother (played by Rebecca De Mornay) suffered severe mental distress due to a series of miscarriages, and his father (played by Clint Jung) passed away unexpectedly. A chance opportunity led Richard to discover a passion for public speaking; despite his limited education, he earned numerous accolades for his exceptional oratory skills. However, his pride was cruelly shattered by a professor, after which Richard volunteered to serve in the Vietnam War and returned home with a lifelong disability. After returning to the U.S., Richard struggled to enter school due to his hearing impairment and faced difficulties finding work. American society at that time was filled with misunderstandings about disabled individuals, and he encountered numerous challenges and humiliations alongside many disabled friends. Throughout this process, Richard gradually found a direction for his life…
