In the early years of the Republic of China, warlords fought fiercely, and disasters arose, leaving the people in despair. In this chaotic era, a group of con artists found a stage to showcase their skills. The gangster leader Lin Xiaotian (played by Liu Chengjun) learns from a con artist that the Japanese will give warlord Wang Dashuai (played by Jiukong) twelve boxes of gold as funding for the war against the Northern Expedition Army. To seize this gold, Lin Xiaotian begins to recruit his forces, targeting the notorious con artists known as "Ghost Face" (played by Ren Xianqi) and the "Immovable Stone Buddha" (played by Tengger). Unexpectedly, "Ghost Face" and "Stone Buddha" turn out to be sworn enemies who cannot meet; the two engage in a fierce competition of cunning to eliminate each other, but they find themselves equally matched in this contest. During this rivalry, "Ghost Face" encounters "Dumpling" (played by Xiong Naijin), who is disguised as a nun to commit theft, and "Dumpling," skilled in lock-picking, is drawn into Lin Xiaotian's conspiracy. The group sets off towards the trading location for the gold, "Fengkou Town." Fengkou Town is a remote small town with only about a hundred households but is home to a fearsome local bandit gang. The leader, Jin Sanniang (played by Weng Hong), takes a liking to "Stone Buddha" during a brawl and insists on taking him as her "bandit husband." To secretly acquire the gold, "Stone Buddha" proposes a stunning plan involving a switcheroo—Double City Scheme—to turn an abandoned town, "Luoshui Town," into "Fengkou Town," leading to an intense plan regarding the gold mine.
