During the warlord chaos, years of conflict left the people in distress. The Xieling faction, which had long since washed its hands of the matter, had no choice but to descend into the tomb to retrieve wealth and exchange it for food to save the starving populace. The heir of Xieling, Jiang Yu, followed his uncle— the leader of Xieling, Jiang Huairui, leading a group of Xieling warriors into the tomb. Shortly after entering, they were ambushed by lurking giant spiders within the tomb, and only Jiang Yu and the guardian Xiong Kui managed to escape back to the village with the severely injured Jiang Huairui.
Upon reaching the entrance, the three discovered a woman in a wedding dress, who introduced herself as Gu Ling. She had been betrothed to Jiang Yu as a child and came to find him to marry in exchange for the betrothal gifts to save her nearly starving brother. At that moment, General Zhang's confidant, Lu Xiaoman, arrived at the entrance and told Jiang Yu that the general wanted to meet him for a business deal.
