Adapted from Robert Penn Warren's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel "All the King's Men," this film won the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 22nd Oscars, with Broderick Crawford and Mercedes McCambridge winning the Oscars for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. The story follows the righteous journalist Jack Burden as he interviews Willie Stark, who is running for county treasurer in Kanoma County. Stark is an ambitious and compassionate man, but he initially fails. After two more attempts, he becomes the governor. However, once in power, Stark begins to abuse his authority, leading to a legislative impeachment against him. In a lawless situation, Stark rallies the masses in a demonstration, ultimately achieving victory. When democracy, freedom, and the law can no longer control him, the son of an opponent he has wronged retaliates violently, ending his life with a gunshot outside the legislature. This film is the first political movie in Oscar history to win the grand prize. It boldly analyzes the political forms of American politicians and unflinchingly points out that the blind support of the masses is a primary reason for political corruption and abuse of power.
